Common Name:  Punctate Leaf Beetle

Latin Name:  Syneta sp.
                        (R. Bercha, det., confirmed by G. Hilchie)

Length:   8.5 - 9.0 mm

Range: Alberta

Habitat:  Various

Time of year seen: Summer

Diet: Leaves, buds, flowers and fruit

Other:  There are three species in Alberta, S. pilosa, S. hamata and S. carinata.  They all look about the same and are difficult to tell apart without a microscope.  The adult beetles are associated with a variety of trees, especially pine, fir, spruce and larch.  (G.
