Common Name:  Glistening Pine Chafer

Latin Name:  Dichelonyx fulgida (LeConte)
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:   8.5 - 9.5 mm

Range: Southwest mountainous areas

Habitat:  Alpine and sub-alpine

Time of year seen: June - July

Diet: Conifer pollen and plant leaves

Other: This brilliantly colored beetle is associated with conifers as it feeds on their pollen.  Its elytra are typically a bright metallic green with reddish to purplish tinge medially.  When encountered numerous individuals may be present.
