Aspen leaf completely mined by a Aspen Leaf Miner larva. Note dark trail of excrement from larva.

Common Name:  Aspen Leaf Miner or
                              Aspen Serpentine Leafminer

Latin Name:  Phyllocnistis populiella Chambers, 1875
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:  ~5 mm

Range: Alberta

Habitat:  Anywhere aspen grows

Time of year seen: June to September

Caterpillar's Diet: Trembling aspen, balsam poplar leaves
