Common Name:  Twenty-spotted Lady Beetle / Ladybug

Latin Name:  Psyllobora vigintimaculata
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:  2 - 3 mm

Range: Throughout Alberta

Habitat:  Various

Time of year seen:  May to September

Diet: Mildew

Other: The Twenty-spotted Ladybug occurs across North America from Mexico to Alaska and over to the East Coast.  It is a small (2-3mm) beetle with yellowish coloration and black spots. In contrast to most lady beetles Psyllobora species are mildew-feeders, not carnivores.   They have special mandibles equipped with fine rows of tiny comb like teeth used to gather up spores and conidia.
