Taiga Bluet - male clasper (40X magnification)

Common Name:  Taiga Bluet

Latin Name:  Coenagrion resolutum Hagen in Selys, 1876
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:  30 mm

Range: Throughout Alberta

Habitat:  Sedge marshes and peat lands

Time of year seen:  May to September (Additional Sightings)

Diet: Insects

Other:  The male Taiga Bluet has blue stripes on the top of its abdomen with no markings on the underside.  The top of the second abdominal segment has a distinct black "U" shaped marking.  The female Taiga is yellow-green or tan to blue with the tops of abdominal segments 8, 9 and 10 being colored black. (Cannings, 2002)
