Common Name:  Marsh or Bog Ground Beetle

Latin Name:  Elaphrus sp.
                        (R. Bercha, det.)

Length:  7.0 - 11.0 mm

Range: Alberta

Habitat: Mud or sand flats, marshes and bogs  

Time of year seen: May - September

Diet: predatory

Other: Marsh Ground Beetles are widely distributed across North America.  They are found near water on wet ground in marshes and bogs, on the banks of rivers,  sand and mud flats and in mosses by springs and small streams.  Both the adults and larva are predators that hunt other small organisms.  Their elytra typically have  punctate depressions.  (White et al, 1983)
