Common Name:  Leafhopper

Latin Name:  Family Cicadellidae

Length:  6 mm

Range: Throughout Alberta

Habitat:  Grassy Areas

Time of year seen:  Summer

Diet: Phloem sap from plants

Other: There is a multitude of leafhopper species in North America, with about 2500 species identified to date.  A key diagnostic feature of this family are the row of spines running along the outer edge of the tibia on the hind leg.
