Latin Name:  Batyle suturalis

Length:  7 mm (not including antennae)

Range:  Forested areas of Alberta

Habitat:  Meadows with flowers

Time of year seen:  Summer

Diet: Larvae tunnel in dead twigs.

Other:  These small longhorn beetles are common on flowers during the summer.  Their coloration is distinctive with a bright red body and black legs and antennae.   The larva feed in dead twigs from a variety of trees. (Yenega, 1996)
